Welcome to the Baby Health Clinic (BHC)

supporting the health and well-being of babies aged 0-1 year.

About Baby Health Clinic (BHC)

The Baby Health Clinic (BHC) is a national digital platform supporting expectant parents, families and professionals throughout pregnancy and the first year of a child's life. BHC brings together evidence-based information, practical resources and guidance informed by current NHS and NICE recommendations, all within one accessible platform. BHC aims to improve early years outcomes by increasing access to trusted information, parent education, and community support.

BHC Aims To:

  • Provide evidence-based guidance on the most common questions parents ask about their baby’s health, growth, safety, and development during the first year of life (0–12 months).

  • Signpost parents and professionals to NHS services, public health resources, trusted charities, and community support services for additional help and guidance.

  • Support families during the first year of life, an important period for bonding, brain development, emotional wellbeing, and healthy infant development.

  • Promote community wellbeing by empowering parents to make informed decisions, supporting positive parenting, and promoting the health and wellbeing of babies, families, and the wider community.

  • BHC also delivers free virtual parent workshops designed to support families during early parenthood through accessible education, wellbeing support and early intervention guidance. Workshops currently focus on healthy weaning and infant obesity prevention, postnatal wellbeing, infant development, play and movement, and family budgeting and support. Sessions are delivered virtually and free of charge, subject to funding availability and community need.

  • BHC aims to bridge the gap between the 6–8 week Health Visitor review and the 1-year developmental review, providing continued guidance, reassurance and evidence-based early years information throughout infancy and early parenthood.

BHC also aims to support the national delivery of the Healthy Child Programme by promoting children’s health, development, and wellbeing in line with the principles of Every Child Matters, helping families give babies the best possible start in life.

How BHC Maintains Reliability

About the BHC Early Years & Family Wellbeing Project

The BHC Early Years & Family Wellbeing Project supports the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) by providing accessible virtual workshops for parents and families across the UK. The workshops help bridge the gap between the Health Visitor review at 6–8 weeks and the 1-year developmental review by offering continued guidance, reassurance and evidence-based early years information throughout infancy and early parenthood.

The project aims to improve outcomes for families through early intervention, practical education and community-based support. It promotes healthy infant nutrition to help reduce the risk of childhood obesity, supports postnatal recovery and maternal wellbeing, encourages positive infant brain development through play and attachment, and helps families build confidence in budgeting, accessing services and maintaining healthy daily routines. The need for early intervention is significant. In England, 10.5% of children aged 4–5 years are living with obesity and a further 13.0% are overweight, meaning almost one in four children are above a healthy weight by the time they start primary school. Child poverty also remains a major challenge, with around 27% of children in the UK living in poverty. These inequalities can affect children's health, development, educational opportunities and long-term life outcomes.

All workshops are delivered virtually and free of charge for parents, carers and families during pregnancy, early parenthood and infancy. Virtual delivery helps reduce barriers associated with travel, childcare responsibilities, work commitments, disability and geographical location, enabling families to access support regardless of income or circumstance.

Workshops are facilitated by a registered Health Visitor and informed by current evidence and relevant NHS and NICE guidance where applicable, providing safe, evidence-based education and practical support for families.

The BHC Early Years & Family Wellbeing Project is a community-led initiative delivered through Baby Health Clinic (BHC). The project provides free, evidence-based workshops and educational resources for parents, carers and families during pregnancy, infancy and early childhood.

The project operates separately from the wider Baby Health Clinic platform and has its own committee and governance arrangements. Any grant funding awarded to the project is used solely for the delivery of community activities and services.

The project currently delivers workshops focusing on healthy weaning and childhood obesity prevention, family financial wellbeing, and sustainable family practices. Together, these programmes aim to improve family wellbeing, reduce inequalities and help children achieve the best possible start in life.

Baby Health Clinic provides the digital platform, booking system and educational resources that support project delivery as an in-kind contribution. Workshop sessions are delivered free of charge and are subject to funding availability and identified community need.

Governance

Baby Health Clinic (BHC) is an independent educational platform owned and managed by BHC

The BHC Early Years & Family Wellbeing Project operates as a separate community initiative with its own committee, governance arrangements and financial management processes.
